When working on my blogs with covers and art from Fads and Fancies I learned about artist Reina Bull (1924 – 2000). She was a remarkable artist, some compare her style with Margareth Brundage but this does neither artist justice. Reina was a book/magazine illustrator variously signing her art using the names Sington (her birth surname), Reina, Janine, and RMB.
Her cover art for Science Fantasy and New Worlds was, aside from being stylistically, very different from the standard fare of the time, these covers carried a sexual charge that went well beyond their subject matter (scantily clad women in futuristic situations) and showed considerably more sophistication than roughly contemporary treatments of similar material by the likes of Earle K Bergey and Rudolph Belarski.
